Safety, comfort and durability are all great ways to describe a BMW, and this extends into the many features of your BMW key fob. Here are some of the things you may not know you can do with your BMW key fob

Roll up or down your windows with your BMW key fob

Sure, many cars, luxury or non-luxury, offer the option to roll down your windows by pressing and holding the unlock button. But, you can’t program them to go back up. Imagine it is a hot summer day in Warner Robins and you’re walking back to your car that’s been sitting in the sun. You can remotely roll down the windows as you are approaching your car. Great. But what happens if you are in a hurry and realize you left your car with all the windows down. You don’t have to walk all the way back to your car. Simply press and hold the unlock button. This feature is normally disabled so you will need to bring your car into our dealership here in Macon and have us enable it.

BMW key fob hack - Disable the motion detector

BMWs come with motion detectors inside the vehicle. Why would you want to disable this function? Let’s say you’re popping inside the grocery to pick up one or two items and you have a passenger that wants to stay inside. If they move, they will set off the alarm. You can disable the motion detector by simply pressing the lock button two times. You’ll know the motion detector is off by checking the rearview mirror. If you see a solid red dot as opposed to a blinking one, motion detection is off.

Remote start your BMW vehicle

We mentioned that in the summer you may want to roll your windows down prior to getting in your car, but in the winter (even in Macon), it can get cold. How nice would it be to start your car and have it warmed up when you slide into your seat? You can do that by simply pressing the logo or lock button three times. Note: For this feature to work, you need to enable this setting in your car’s menu. This setting can be found under climate control.

Set up driver profiles in your BMW

Each BMW fob can be stored with driver profiles, so you don’t have to change your settings when you swap drivers. It’s so much more than seat memory, it includes mirror settings and the steering wheel as well. You set this up within your BMW car settings, however it will be tied to the key fob, so that when you or your partner are the driver, the settings auto adjust to your settings. With YOUR key fob and smart phone with you follow the prompts under the driver profile within your car. You will be asked to scan a QR code on your phone to the section of the MY BMW App. You will come to place to link the vehicle to your fob. Once that’s selected, you are all set!

Your BMW’s key fob stores your vehicle diagnostics

Yep, your BMW key fob will store your vehicle’s vitals, so to speak. The fob will keep a record of service appointments that your BMW has had and what it is due to have done.

Lock up your valuables with your BMW key fob?

From big cities to smaller ones, we know that car break-ins are on the rise. While you may not be able to prevent someone from breaking into your BMW at least don’t leave valuables lying around, especially when you are going to valet your car. How can your key fob help? Here’s how: first take your valuables and put them in your trunk. Next press the release button on the side of your fob to release the key blade. Open the glove box and look for the tailgate lock switch. Switch it to the lock position. Then use your key blade to lock the glove compartment. Keep your blade on you and hand over your fob to the valet while you enjoy a nice dinner in Forsyth or Perry.
